Leo J. Gareau
North Sutton, N.H. — Leo J. Gareau, 82, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at this home. He was born in Attleboro, Mass. on July 8, 1931, the son of Leo J. and Rosanna (Rougeau) Gareau.
While in Attleboro, Leo worked for St. Regis Paper Co. as the Foreman of the Plastics Division. They moved to Georges Mills, N.H. and he worked at King Ridge Ski Area and helped put up the first double chairlift. He was a carpenter and worked for Woodward and Moreland and then formed his own company, Sunapee Mountain Builders, where he worked for 20 years. He also did a lot of work for the late William Kidder. Leo retired about 10 years ago and still kept busy making shrub guards for Clarke’s Hardware.
Summering in Blodgetts Landing for several years, the family moved to the Sunapee area, spent 18 years in West Springfield, N.H. and the past 11 years in North Sutton. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Leo enjoyed antique cars and other collectibles. He was a former member of the Sunapee Lions Club. His specialty dish was French meat pie and making frosting.
He was predeceased by his sister, Rita Marie LaPierre, in 2008. Members of his family surviving include his wife of 56 years, A. Doreen (Davison) Gareau of North Sutton; two daughters, Crystal Ann Marie Gareau of Kingfield, Maine and Renee Doreen Lecaroz and her partner, Steven Gould of Croydon, N.H.; a grandson, Tucker Lloyd Lecaroz; seven nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with a service to follow at the funeral home.
