Sharon — For Betty Wood, retirement meant one thing: more time to volunteer. Wood, a familiar face at the Sharon Food Shelf and VA Medical Center, relished meeting and helping people, and only wanted to further her mission after retiring from nearly two decades in the nursing field. “Everyone came first,” said Bernard “Bunny” Strong, her partner of 13 years. “She would stand so others could sit.” Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Wood died at her Sharon home on Feb. 11 at age 83.
