Edna R. Stearns
Lyme, N.H. — Edna R. Stearns, age 82, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born Oct. 30, 1930, in East Pepperell, Mass., the daughter of John Hutchins and Ruth Beard. She lived most of her life in Lyme.
In 1949, Edna married the love of her life Fred Orren Stearns, Jr. For the first years of their marriage, they lived in logging camps throughout the Upper Valley. In the early 50s, they settled in Lyme where they raised their seven children. Edna worked as a housekeeper for the Hanover and Norwich Inns and many private residences in Lyme for more than 40 years.
Family and friends were Edna’s passion and delight. She enjoyed camping, fishing, family cookouts and her farm animals. Edna was a member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
She was predeceased by her husband Fred Orren Stearns Jr., her three brothers, John, Wilber, Joe and two sisters, Ruby Harper and Inez Cook.
Survivors include four sons, David R. Stearns Sr. of Rutland, Vt., Fred O Stearns III, Denzil C. Stearns and Russell R. Stearns of Lyme; three daughters, Sylvia M. King of Lyme, Ruth A. Dunkling of Sharon, Vt. and Elaine F. Churchill of Thetford, Vt.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Sanborn of Lyme; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service in the spring at the Highland Cemetery in Lyme. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society.
