Local Students Win Writing Awards
Three local students were honored recently for their entries in the 2013 PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest, held by Vermont Public Television.The annual contest is open to students from kindergarten to third grade.
Keira E. Kegelman, a kindergartener from Hartland, won her age group with her story “Best Friends Eat Their Veggies.”
First-grade student Madeleine Thaxton, of East Thetford, earned an honorable mention for My Day in Kitty World, and second-grader Aidan Gage, of Randolph, received an honorable mention for Paddy the Fish and Dribbler the Duck.
Entrants used crayons, watercolors and photographs to illustrate their original storybooks. The winning entries from each grade will be entered into the national contest, and all entrants will be invited to read their work at story times held around the state.
