Letter: Another Form of Science Denial

To the Editor:

The letter from the chairman of the Vermont chapter of the Sierra Club (“Classic Climate-Denial Tactics,” Nov. 1) says the climate-change deniers ignore science. As a nuclear engineer, I agree that they do, and they also cherry pick facts. Change “climate-change deniers” to “radiation-science deniers,” and the letter would still be on target. Opponents of nuclear power deny the facts and history of radiation. Of course, too much of anything is deadly, but managed levels are safe. Levels are managed to be the same or lower than other places in the world.

For a good presentation of radiation around the world, see Pandora’s Box, a documentary shown recently on CNN. It is about leading environmentalists who are so concerned about climate change that they now support nuclear power.
