Orin Howe

West Lebanon, N.H. — Orin Howe, 65, of West Lebanon, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at his winter residence in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., after a long illness.

Born July 5, 1947, Orin was the youngest child of Edward and Hazel Howe of Plainfield, N.H. Growing up in Plainfield, Orin and brother, Harvey, were always working hard and sneaking off whenever possible to go hunting or fishing.

Orin graduated from Lebanon High School, Class of 65, and could always be seen rushing from school to go to work at Wally’s or his brother-in-law’s garage in Hanover.

He joined the Army before he could be drafted, and soon after discharge he met his future wife, Linda Chapley. They were married in 1971 and lived in the Boston area, where Orin did pile driving. Missing the Upper Valley, they moved back and raised their family. He worked at several different jobs before reaching his lifelong goal to own his own garage. He purchased and ran Orin’s Muffler and Brake on Route 12A for 30 years. Many men worked for Orin over the years and he was always helping someone start their own business, buy their first house or first car, etc. He enjoyed heavy equipment operating and was often found helping someone build a road, driveway or digging a basement.

Orin was active in the community and enjoyed coaching Little League. He also enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends, going to his camp, playing softball, four-wheeling and dancing. Orin could be found at area race tracks, where he won many races and passed this talent onto his son.

Known as Grampy O to his grandchildren, he enjoyed spending time with them. They were what kept him going and he always had a special twinkle in his eyes when they were together.

Orin was predeceased by his parents, his wife, brother Harvey, and brother-in-law and friend, Jess Wilmott.

Survivors include: children, Randy, of Lebanon, N.H., and Suzanne Howe-Fraser, of Thetford Center, Vt.; four grandchildren, Alex, Jenna, Andrew and Melinda; sisters, Violet Wilmot, of Lyme, N.H., Vera Wilmot, of Kerville, Texas, and Bernice Bouchier, of Plainfield, N.H.
