None Injured in Newport House Fire

Newport — Fire officials said the cause of a first alarm fire at 309 Bradford Road in Newport yesterday evening was unknown.

Fire Captain David McCrillis said he believed the fire started in the first floor bathroom and spread up through the wall and into the attic of the two-story home.

McCrillis said no one was injured in the fire.

Although he deemed the home “probably not livable,” McCrillis said the front portion of the home, unlike the rear, could possibly hold occupants.

The homeowner, whose name was not released, declined to comment.

McCrillis said the homeowner arrived home and saw smoke, and then alerted the department to the fire.
