Joan E. Coutermarsh
Hanover, N.H. — Joan E. Coutermarsh, 74, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born March 1, 1939, in Lebanon to the late Walter & Rena (Heaney) Coutermarsh Sr. Joan was born with cerebral palsy and it was predicted she would not live past her teens.
She attended the Enfield Village School, and lived in Enfield most her life. She had been a resident at Hanover Terrace since 1999. In her younger days, she enjoyed walking downtown to meet people, reading movie magazines, and she especially liked to dance. Until the end, she could remember lyrics to old songs and everyone’s birthday. With the support of family, especially her mother, Joan was able to overcome many obstacles in her life.
She is survived by sisters, Claire Packard, Marilyn Avery, Diane Charbono, and Martha George, all of Enfield, N.H.; sisters-in-law, Eva Coutermarsh of Lexington, Ky. and Elizabeth Coutermarsh, Enfield; brother-in-law, Robert Gaudette of Florida and longtime companion, Francis Brault of Newport, N.H. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers, Walter Coutermarsh, Jr., and Robert Coutermarsh, and a sister, Dolores Gaudette.
Joan’s family would especially like to thank the Hanover Terrace staff for all the loving care she received over the past 14 years.
There will be no calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be announced in the spring at the Lakeview Cemetery in Enfield. An online guest book is available to leave a message of condolence for the family by visiting www.rickerfuneral home.com.
