Jean Crawford McKee

New London N.H. — Jean Crawford McKee of New London died on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Woodcrest Village in New London.

Jean was born in Ridgewood, N.J. in Aug. of 1924, the daughter of William and Edna Crawford. She graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1942 and Middlebury College in 1926. While at Middlebury, she met Peter Q. McKee and they were married on April 8, 1947, in Ridgewood, N.J.

They made their home in Andover, Mass., where Jean was a member of the Phillips Academy Faculty for 42 years starting in 1947. Along with her role as a faculty wife, Jean was a long time member of the Admissions Department as an admissions coordinator; Director of Admissions for the Summer Session; day student counselor; tennis coach and a Trustee of New York City’s Oliver Program to recruit inner city minority students.

After retiring, they moved to the New London area where they have had a residence since 1952. In New London, Jean was a member of The Lake Sunapee Protective Association, The New London Hospital Auxiliary, The New London Garden Club and St. Andrews Episcopal Church to name a few.

Jean is survived by her son Peter Q. McKee Jr. and Barbara Halstead of Nantucket, Mass.; her two daughters, Cynthia Scott of Charlevoix, Mi. and Patricia Halsey of Bath, N.H.; her two favorite sons-in-law, Buck Scott and Michael Halsey; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Stoke of Del Mar, Calif.

Services will be held later in the spring at St. Andrews Church in New London. Mckee Scholarship Fund at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.
