Margaret (Whitman) McIntosh Spinney
New London, N.H. — Margaret (Whitman) McIntosh Spinney, 89, of Woodcrest Village, New London, NH passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014. She was born June 7, 1925, in Kittery, Maine to Robert Charles and Hazel (Wasgatt) Whitman. She attended Kittery Schools graduating in 1942 from Traip Academy where she was on the National Honor Society. She attended UNH where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Maine General Hospital Cadet Nurse Program in Portland, Maine. Mrs. Spinney was Director of Nursing Services at New London Hospital where she was employed for 22 years and at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, Vt. for 10 years.
In 1985, she married her high school sweetheart, Ralph E. Spinney, and they were happily married for 16 years until his death in 2001 in St. Petersburg, Fla. where they lived in retirement.
Mrs. Spinney was a member of St. Andrews Church in New London, Mercy Hathaway White Chapter of the D.A.R. and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She enjoyed the Red Sox and the Patriots, working on genealogy and loved her family and her profession.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sisters, Alma Whitman Cricenti and Dorothy Whitman MacDonald. She is survived by her daughter, Susan McIntosh Roos and her husband, Peter W. Roos of New London; grandsons, Christopher David Roos of Auburn, N.H. and Peter Graham Roos, his wife, Kerri and their daughter, Ella Claire and son, Joshua David of Dunbarton, N.H.; stepdaughter, Carol Rivers and her husband, Dana of Somersworth, N.H.; stepson, David Spinney and his wife, Debi of Coral Springs, Fla.; two step-grandchildren, Kari Rivers and Matthew Spinney; two nephews, Robert Cricenti and his wife, Rita and Philip Cricenti; two nieces, Linda MacDonald Fulling and Cathy MacDonald Theisen; grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Gould Road, New London. Private burial will be in Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery, Maine.
