Jane Price Bassick

Jacksonville, Fla. — Jane Price Bassick, 87, who was born in March 27,1926, in Butler and was a longtime resident of New London, N.H., died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in hospice care in Jacksonville.

Jane was born to Clarence and Hazel Price in Butler on March 27, 1926. She was a graduate of Ohio State University and received a Master of Science from the University of Bridgeport.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Jane is predeceased by her husband, Marshall M. (Pete) Bassick, and is survived by her children and their spouses, Jane (Robert) McIlvaine Finney of Epson, John (Kathy) McIlvaine of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert (Victoria) Bassick of New London, and Eleanor Bassick Trovato of Bridgewater, Mass.; stepchildren, Marshall (Margot) Bassick Jr. of Aberdeen, Md., Adrienne Rosenthal of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Barret (Gwen) Bassick of Brooksville, Fla.; two grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and eight step-great-grandchildren. Jane is also survived by her cousin, Pat (Bill) Sauer of Covington, Ky., who was like a sister to her.

Jane worked in broadcast and public relations during her professional career which spanned nearly 40 years. She retired in 1997 from her final position as director of public affairs for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H. during which time she produced the award-winning television series, The Doctor is In, which aired on PBS.

Jane was a lifelong learner and lover of the arts, which included opera, theatre and classical music. She was a voracious reader, an adventurous traveler, and a student of current events and history. Jane’s greatest pleasures included time spent in her garden, with her animals and surrounded by her family.

A private memorial service for family and friends will take place in New London this summer.
