Joanne Linda (Peavey) Wheeler

West Newbury, Vt. — Joanne Linda (Peavey) Wheeler, 70, of Rogers Hill Road, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

She was born in Newbury, Vt., June 22, 1943, the daughter of  James and Pearl (Green) Peavey. She married James Wheeler on June 30, 1962.

Joanne graduated from Newbury High School, Class of 1961. She then went on to cosmetology school at the Sheldon School of Beauty in Burlington, Vt. For 10 years, she worked at Dotties Beauty Shop in Fairlee, Vt., then she and her sister operated Creative Curl in Hanover, N.H. Following that she owned her own shop, Joanne’s Beauty Shop in West Newbury. Over the years, she also took CNA courses.

Joanne lived in Newbury all her life. She volunteered at the West Newbury Church and for the Backroom in West Newbury. She enjoyed traveling. Her family and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joys of her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, James and Pearl Peavey.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, James Wheeler of West Newbury; two sons, Randy L. Wheeler of Bradford, Vt. and Christopher J. Wheeler of West Newbury; eight grandchildren, John, Logan, Kristin, Rebecca, Scott, Allan, Paige Gray, and Tristan Gray; six great grandchildren, Kaydence, Aaliyah, Parker, Talon, Briaunnah, and Hailey; a sister, Jean Shepard of Hanover, N.H.; a mother-in-law, Blanche Oliver of Newbury; five sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of Joanne’s life will be on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Newbury Town Hall, Tyler Farm Road, West Newbury.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring at the West Newbury Cemetery.
