Local ‘Mathletes’ Place in Contest

Lebanon — Several local teams and individual “mathletes” were among the top scorers in a statewide math competition earlier this month in Plymouth, N.H.

About 100 students competed in New Hampshire’s Mathcounts state competition. Teams from Richmond Middle School and Lyme School placed fifth and sixth, respectively. In the individual standings, Peter Schmidt, a Lebanon home schooler, placed ninth. Mindy Wu, a Richmond Middle School student was 13th; and Matthew Hunton and Sawyer Hanlon, both from Lyme School, placed 21st and 22nd, respectively.

“We should be proud of these students for doing such a great job in such a competitive environment,” Len Zabilansky, Lebanon Region Mathcounts co-coordinator, said in an email.
