Two Arrested in Connection With Lebanon Hammer Assault

Lebanon — Police arrested a husband and wife last evening at the Bartering Barn in connection with allegedly assaulting another man with a hammer during an altercation that occurred just before midnight Tuesday.

David Collins, 31, faces a charge of first degree assault and his wife, Natalie Collins, 26, is being charged as an accomplice to first degree assault, Lt. Phil Roberts said last night.

Police do not yet have a permanent address for the couple.

David and Natalie Collins manage the Bartering Barn thrift store on Macoma Street, which opened only a couple weeks ago, Roberts said.

Police confirmed with witnesses on scene that David Collins struck an adult male, several times in the head with a hammer. Roberts said the victim was treated for his injuries and released.

Roberts said he is unsure whether the David or Natalie Collins have prior criminal histories.

Police served the warrant for their arrest just before 7 p.m. yesterday at the couple’s business.

Bartering Barn is located at the intersection of Mascoma and High streets.

At the scene last night, a black police SUV sat unoccupied along High Street, lights flashing, and two other police cruisers were parked on the opposite side of the building.

David Collins is being held overnight at the Grafton County jail on $20,000 cash bond and will be arraigned this morning, Roberts said.

Natalie Collins was taken to the Lebanon Police Department where she was released on a personal recognizance bond of $20,000 with her court date, which is scheduled for September.
