Lebanon  Firefighters  Rescue 2 From Mascoma River

Lebanon — A 51-year-old woman and her 9-year-old child were fished from the Mascoma River yesterday after the Lebanon Fire Department responded to a report that they were yelling for help from the middle of the waterway.

The report came in at 3:13 yesterday afternoon and within 25 minutes both victims had been removed safely from the water. A bystander heard the two shouting for help in the area of Riverside Drive and called emergency responders. The mother and child had been reportedly swept downstream after entering the river to swim in yesterday’s sweltering heat.

After refusing transport to the hospital, the victims were taken home by fire department personnel. They were not injured, officials said.
