Letter: The Local Arms Race

To the Editor:

This is from a poor soldier of Vietnam. I went to the store recently, and the store owner showed me a .357 gun. He said that if he’s robbed, then someone else will get shot. He doesn’t want to get killed, either. He came here to live in peace, and this is what he encounters while trying to make a decent, honest living for him and his family.

So my question is: Do two wrongs make a right? Do guns make for a safer nation?
