Mavis L. Hart

Hanover, N.H. — Mavis L. Hart, 98, of Wheelock Terrace, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014.

She was born in Barre, Vt, Oct, 3. 1915, to Carl and Alice Crossett Perry. She outlived brothers, Robert Perry & Nelson Perry, and sister, Jean Dolan. Sister-in-law Gene Perry lives in Fla.

Mavis is survived by her loving husband of over 42 years, William Hart, Jr. of Wheelock Terrace, Hanover.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Norman L. Buchanan who died in 1964 in Malden, Mass.

Mavis is survived by her three sons, Norman Buchanan & wife, Ruth of Pomfret, Vt., William Buchanan & wife, Sharon of Deerfield, N.H. and Paul Buchanan & his wife, Martha of Weare, N.H. There are seven Buchanan grandchildren and one great grandson.

Mavis is also survived by William Hart’s four children, Susan Schwarz and her husband, Gregory of Lebanon, N.H., William (Ty) Hart III of Manchester, N.H., Sally Demers and her husband, Robert of Merrimack, N.H., Craig Hart & wife, Heather of E. Weymouth, Mass. There are eight Hart grandchildren.

Mavis & Bill married in 1971 & lived in Merrimack, N.H., then in Rossmoor, N.J. for a time with Bill’s job.

They bought land in Coventry, Vt. and started building their dream house overlooking Lake Memphremagog. Mavis was happy to live back in Vt., close to her family. Bill & Mavis enjoyed traveling with Bill’s work and later for pleasure. Mavis was active in the United Church of Newport, doing volunteer work and with the P.E.O. Foundation.

Many happy holidays & family gatherings were hosted in their home. Mavis was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed the grandchildren visiting. She took pleasure in reading, gardening and loved to watch & feed the birds. Mavis had a keen sense of humor. She was a quiet, private woman who loved her family, nature, the water and lived life with a positive attitude.

They reluctantly sold their home & moved into a condo in Newport, Vt., which also had a beautiful view of the lake. In 2007, they moved to Lebanon, N.H. to be near family.

The family would like to thank Wheelock Terrace, VNA & Hospice for the compassionate care Mavis received.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later date in Coventry, Vt.
