Elizabeth Osen Rose

Haverhill, N.H. — Elizabeth Osen Rose, age 70, died at home of cancer in the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 17, 2014.

Betsy was born on October 16, 1943 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of Geraldine Guerin Osen and Clifford Osen, Jr. She grew up in the small Wisconsin farming town of De Pere, graduated from East De Pere High School and attended the University of Wisconsin.

In 1961, Betsy moved with husband Bob to Hanover, N.H. where he was a student at Dartmouth and where she also attended classes as they started to raise a family. From 1968 to 1971 Betsy, Bob and their three children lived in Norwich, Vt., from 1971 until 1974 they lived in Ft. Riley Kansas and then in 1974 Betsy returned to the Upper Valley where Bob was a physician at DHMC. Since 2000 Betsy has made her home in the village of Haverhill Corner.

For many years Betsy was a familiar face in Hanover where she worked in various shops, including James Campion, Omer and Bob’s and Roberts Florist. Known for her sense of style, Betsy also consulted as a wedding planner and in interior design.

Betsy was involved in her community and church. She was active in the First Congregational Church in Haverhill, frequently participating in worship as the lay reader, organizing the annual Memory Tree and founding and supporting the church’s scholarship fund. She taught at Ford Sayre Ski School, volunteered in the gift shop at DHMC, for The Prouty and was the coordinator for the food collection mission of her church in Haverhill.

Betsy loved her family and her church, her friends, people she met in her community, her Jack Russell terriers, Lily and Jinny, her home with its beautiful views across the Connecticut River Valley, the beaches of South Carolina and Martha’s Vineyard, Duke basketball and the Green Bay Packers.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Robert Rose of Haverhill, N.H.; daughters, Meredith (Tod) Bryant of Canton, Mass., Kristen (Greg) Krise of Dover, N.H. and Marta (Greg) Harris of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister, Deborah Govier of Manasas, Va.; and grandchildren, Parker and Duncan Bryant, Megan and Connor Kellett and Jessica and Robert Wesley Harris.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service for Betsy will be held at the First Congregational Church, UCC of Haverhill, 120 School Street, in Haverhill on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
