Erwin N. Rogers

Hartland, Vt. — Erwin N. Rogers, 72, died Tuesday Dec. 3, 2013, at home in Hartland surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 8, 1941, in Rutland, Vt. a son of Erwin and Marion (White) Rogers. Erwin grew up in Bridgewater, Vt. where he attended elementary school and later graduated from the Woodstock Union High School where he was a star pitcher on the baseball team. He served in the US Air Force for four years and after being honorably discharged returned to the Woodstock area where he worked as a painting contractor for over 50 years.

Erwin loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting in Vermont, Canada and Montana. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching Red Sox baseball and playing cribbage with his friends.

He was a competitive shooter and a life member of the NRA, a past member of the American Legion Post 26 and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 2571 both in White River Jct., as well as the B.P.O.Elks Lodge 1541 in Hartford.

Erwin is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sylvia, of Hartland; his children, Wendy Rogers and her fiancé, David “Buck” Greenwood of White River Jct., Emily Rogers of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Michael Rogers of Hartland; and his sister, Erlene Rogers of Woodstock. He was predeceased by his sister, Diane Blanchard in 2012.

A celebration of Erwin’s life will be announced at a later date. Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., Vt. has been entrusted with arrangements.
