Stockbridge, Vt. — Thomas F. Michaud, Jr. died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Brookside Nursing Home at the age of 90. He was the son of Thomas F. Michaud Sr. and Grace Cloutier Michaud. He was born in Limestone, Maine on Nov. 1, 1922. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lewis, Henry, and Dana; and sisters, Katherine Hartshorn, Ruth Parent, and Alice Varney.
Tom attended schools in Rochester, N.H. He worked for the New England Boat Builder’s Shipyard in South Portland, Maine for several years as a master welder. He acquired his training through the University of New Hampshire’s technician program. He moved to Stockbridge in 1947 and operated the Ted Green Farm Machinery business, later becoming the service manager at Ted Green Ford, Inc. He worked for the Ford dealership for over 40 years.
He met Rita Woodbury Michaud at Gifford Memorial Hospital, where she graduated from the hospital’s nursing program. They were married on Aug. 3, 1947, and spent 62 years together.
He was an artist with a welder. He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, and refinished antiques. He was an avid duck hunter, and belonged to a local carving group which he enjoyed. Most of all, he loved his two grandchildren, and followed all of their church, school, and sports activities during their pre-school, elementary, and high school years—and beyond. “Nana and Gramps” were mutually loved by their grandchildren.
He leaves a daughter, Nancy Michaud McCullough, and her husband, Stephen, of Hartland; a grandson, Corey McCullough, of Ogunquit, Maine; and a granddaughter, Renee McCullough of Hartland.
