Kenneth M. Dow

Hartland, Vt. — Kenneth M. Dow, 76, died surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012. He was born on Jan. 14, 1936, the son of Mervin and Emma (Temple) Dow. He attended Hartland Elementary School and graduated from Windsor High School. He Enlisted in the Army and was discharged in 1959. In 1960, he married Virginia Royce of Hartland. They lived most of their married life in Hartland. He was a machinist by trade. He worked at Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Conn., the Gear Shaper in Springfield, Cone Automatic in Windsor, and 20 years at North Hartland Tool. In 1986, he and two sons, Mark and Matthew, started D & D Excavating, where he was president until the day he died.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years; his four sons, Jerry and his wife, Martha of Hartland, Jeffrey of Hartland, Mark and his wife, Jan of Hartland, and Matthew and his wife, Deanna of Hartland; his daughter, Cynthia Fletcher and her husband, David of Melrose, Mass.; his sister, Ruth Doxter of Vergennes; seven grandchildren, Sloan, Kyra, Jenna, Zachary, Jaymie, Jody and Adam; and several nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Ned.

There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Damon Hall in Hartland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Hartland brick church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hartland Volunteer Fire Department.
