Volunteers Needed To Pull Milfoil In Quechee
Quechee — Volunteers are needed for a milfoil-pulling party on Sept. 14 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Dewey’s Mill Pond.
The pond is infested with Eurasian water milfoil, an invasive plant that is degrading the pond’s natural habitat and recreational benefits, the Hartford Parks and Recreation Department said in a news release last week. The department has received a grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation to help control the plant.
Volunteers should bring a canoe or kayak if possible and meet at the boat ramp on the pond, across from the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm.
Hand-pulling by canoeists, snorkelers and waders will be supplemented by diver-assisted suction harvesting to reduce the amount of milfoil in the pond.
