VA Physicians Recognized For Supporting Military Spouse
White River Junction — Two physicians working for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction recently received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award for their support for one of their office administrators, the spouse of a U.S. Army Reservist. Deborah Amdur, director of the medical center, was also honored.
“Doctors Heiko Pohl and Douglas Robertson have supported (Lynda) Kowal during her husband’s multiple deployments and other service commitments, as well as while she served as a volunteer leader for the Family Readiness Group during a major deployment of her husband’s unit, the Engineer Battalion of the U.S. Army Reserve,” the ESGR said in a recent news release.
Kowal, of Silver Lake, N.H., is a medical support assistant for the medical center’s Gastroenterology Department. Her husband is Sgt. 1st Class Scott Kowal.
Amdur received the ESGR Above and Beyond Award, for the “overall superb support that the VA provides to all of its citizen warriors,” ESGR said.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense organization that promotes, recognizes and enhances civilian employer support of citizen warriors.
The organization also facilitates “meaningful employment opportunities for citizen warriors, their spouses, and all veterans,” ESGR said. — Compiled by Aimee Caruso
