Letter: Word Choice Is Critical
To the Editor:
Two sides of the issue of regional planning were represented by the letters from Douglas Tuthill and Kate McCarthy in the Aug. 30 Forum. McCarthy, I’m afraid, placed herself at a disadvantage, and if she hopes to prevail, she’ll need to develop her vocabulary. Without “Communist,” “ridiculous,” “extortion,” “thugs,” “government stealing” and “crooked leaders,” as ways of defining those on the other side of the issue, she doesn’t seem to stand any chance of convincing readers of her point of view. As it is now, Tuthill is way ahead with this kind of vocabulary.
