Bertha “Betsy” Elizabeth Bennett

Boscawen, N.H. — Bertha “Betsy” Elizabeth Bennett, born March 30, 1926, passed away peacefully at the Merrimack County Nursing Home on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. She was 87. Betsy was a resident of Hanover from 1972-1974 and again in the 1980’s. She resided in Plymouth, N.H. for the past 20 years.

Betsy was the daughter of Prof. Albert A. & Velma (McAfee) Bennett, Jr. and grew up in Providence, R.I. She graduated from Hope High School in 1944 and attended the University of Texas in Austin. Betsy was known for her wit, her intellect and her musical talents. She was a fine pianist with a beautiful voice and exposed her children and grandchildren to all genres of music and art. She will be missed and remembered fondly for her playful manner.

Betsy leaves behind her daughters, Ann Kinner of San Diego, Calif., Merilynn Bourne of Cornish, N.H., Tertia Cote of Lincoln, N.H., Phoebe Sanborn of Rumney, N.H.; and two sons, Ben Bennett of Phoenix, Ariz. and Rick Davis of Lancaster, Pa.

Betsy also leaves her grandchildren, Wendy Bourne Hirdler and her husband, Ted of Middlebury, Vt., Jason Bourne and his wife, Christine of Cornish, Molly Bourne of Hanover, N.H., Christopher Chilton of Cornish, Mirka Zapletal of New Orleans, La., Bennet Zapletal of Sharon, Vt., Jessie Sanborn of Burlington, Vt., Jake Sanborn of Rumney, N.H. and Lindsay & Ryan Davis of Lancaster, Pa.

Betsy has eight great-grandchildren: Max & Wesley Hirdler of Middlebury, Vt., Alex, Paige & Emily Bourne of Cornish, Edward & Charlie Creelman of Hanover and Ayden Chilton of Cornish.

Betsy was predeceased by her daughter Susan Hope Davis in 1970.

The family will hold a private memorial service in the Spring.
