George F. Nordstrom
Hanover, N.H. — George Nordstrom, 95, of Hanover, passed away peacefully, this past Monday morning, Feb. 4, 2013, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a brief illness.
George was born in Sodertalje, Sweden, son of Helena and Julius Nordstrom. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. While attending school, he began working at Astra Pharmaceuticals. Through his hard work and dedication, he moved to America in 1950, to serve as the Executive Vice President, of a new factory in Worcester, Mass. He became instrumental in the building and development of Astra USA, where Xylocaine, an important anesthetic drug, was produced. In future years, he used his knowledge and experience to help guide the development of plants in Mexico, Argentina and Australia. He retired from Astra in 1982 and moved with his wife, Margareta, to Hanover, where they resided until his passing.
George loved his work and was proud of the contributions that Astra have made to the medical field. He loved his family and enjoyed the times that everyone was able to be together. He enjoyed his flowers and trees. It was there that he reflected on life, while enjoying the tranquility of nature.
George is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Margareta; his children, Gunilla Kuniholm and her husband, Dr. Jonathan Kuniholm of Lyme, N.H., Dr. Leif Nordstrom and his wife, Patricia of Wilbraham, Mass., Lars Nordstrom and Lilian of Sandy Hook, Conn. He also leaves his wonderful eight grandchildren, Eric, Mark, Neil, Michael, Christina, Chris, Stephanie and Alex; and three cherished great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held privately.
The family wishes to thank the physicians and nurses of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for the expert care they gave our Dad, over the years and a special thanks to Dr. Daniel Stadler for his compassion and support.
