Lebanon and Hanover Firefighters Train for Self-Rescue

Lebanon — Four Lebanon firefighters and one Hanover firefighter are among 120 receiving potentially lifesaving training this month at the New Hampshire Fire Academy.

Lebanon firefighters Jeff Clattenburg, Joel Coelho, Jonathan Copeland and James Wheatley, and Hanover firefighter Troy Leatherman, are participating in Fire Ground Survival training, designed by the International Association of Firefighters.

The three-day course was developed from lessons learned from fatality investigations conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

It teaches procedures and skills to help firefighters survive in life-threatening situations, with nearly 16 hours devoted to “live-fire” training.

The course is being made available with support from the International Association of Fire Fighters and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Assistance to Firefighters Act.
