Bets and Kirby moved to the Eastman Community in Grantham, in the mid 80’s. Bets was a member of the South Congregational Church in Newport since moving to the area. She continued to be involved in the Mt. Holyoke Alumni Association, and volunteered her time to fundraising for the American Diabetes Association and for David’s House in Lebanon. She held positions on committees at Eastman, and was very well known for sending cards and letters, and making phone calls to family, friends and acquaintances on special occasions.

She is survived by her two daughters: Ellen Hayes Wienberg and her husband, Charlie, of Manchester and their children: Emily and Molly Wienberg; Linda Williams and her husband, Mike, of Freeport, Maine and their children: Meghan, Katie, Colleen and Mikey Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the South Congregational Church, with the Rev. Craig Cowing officiating. Burial will be private and there will be no calling hours.
