Shirley Anne Armstrong Bolles
Fairlee, Vt. — Shirley Anne Armstrong Bolles, 86, of Birch Meadow Road in Fairlee died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Lebanon Center Eldercare in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born in Glouchester, Mass. on May 7, 1927, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Williams) Armstrong. She was married to Donald Holcomb Stocking on April 13, 1946, together they had five children, In her younger years she helped out on the family farm such as driving truck under the chopper spout.
She was involved in retail sales most of her life including, Sarah Coventry Jewelry, Avon Products, Wards Department Store in Hanover, N.H. and JC Penney in West Lebanon, N.H., and also owned her own business in East Thetford, Vt. called Lee’s Country Closet. She and her husband Don also ran a restate business for a number of years.
She and her husband Don also sang in North Country Chorus for many years, and enjoyed singing at local churches and other events. When they retired they wintered in Florida and spent the summers in Vermont.
She was remarried to Newton Bolles in the fall of 1999 and changed her name to Leeanne Bolles. She and Newton continued to winter at their Mt. Doro home in Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Newton Bolles of Fairlee; two daughters, Dawn Oakes and her husband, Winfield of Washington State, Holly Stocking of Underhill, Vt.; three sons, Steven and Arline Stocking of Fairlee, Chris and wife, Donna of Fairlee, and Jeff and wife, Kathy of Fairlee; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Stocking.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Fairlee Community Church with Rev. Richard Hodge officiating. There are no calling hours. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to North Country Chorus-Wells River, Vt. or Fairlee Community Church.
