The first round of inductees to the incipient New Hampshire Women’s Heritage Trail includes 25 women and three historic sites, among them a Newport native and a former religious community in Enfield. Markers have not yet been made for the “trail,” but fundraising is underway to complete the project, which was dreamed up in 2005 as a way to recognize and celebrate the contributions women have made to New Hampshire since its founding. Enfield Shaker Village, an active community from 1792-1992, was part of the religious society formally known as the United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing.
