Letter: He’s No Trayvon Martin

To the Editor:

Speaking about the shooting of Trayvon Martin, President Obama said, “That could have been me 35 years ago.”

I don’t see how, unless Martin was attending an elite (expensive) school (Punahome in Hawaii), then went to a small expensive college (Occidental College in California), then on to an even more prestigious and expensive (Columbia in New York City), and then on to one of the top five law schools (Harvard in Massachusetts).

I seriously doubt Obama wore a hoodie in Hawaii or would have found himself walking in a neighborhood that was experiencing household robberies.

If every Trayvon Martin led as privileged a life as Obama, our country would indeed be “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
