Brian P. Desmarais
Claremont, N.H. — Brian P. Desmarais, 69, of Myrtle Street in Claremont died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. following a brief illness surrounded by many loved ones. He was born in Claremont on Oct. 17, 1944, the son of Gerard and Irma (Curtis) Desmarais and had been a lifetime Claremont resident.
Brian owned and operated Dan’s Service Center on Washington Street since 1966. Prior to that he worked at Tony’s Pizza in Claremont and that is where he developed his passion for cooking. Whenever there was a family event or social function that involved a pig roast, or anything involving outdoor cooking, Brian could always be found manning the fire pit making sure that everything was cooked to perfection and that everyone left full. In 1983, he opened Brian’s Pizza & Deli on North Street. Brian enjoyed cooking, fishing, bird and duck hunting.
He was a member of the Sports Car Club of America and enjoyed racing at hill climb events. He was a member, past Exalted Ruler and Trustee of the Elks Lodge #879, member of the Claremont Moose Lodge, 1201, Claremont Country Club, Polish American Citizen’s Club and American Legion Post #29.
Members of his family include a son, Brian P. Desmarais, Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, Claremont; three daughters, Kim Holmes and her husband, Michael, Hardwick, Mass.; Irma Allen and her husband, Mark, Springfield, Vt.; Nicole Boylan and her husband, Robert, Walpole, N.H.; eight grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Jr., Mandy, Mark, Cory, Tara, Samuel, Elena; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Terry L. Desmarais, Manchester, N.H.; Richard Desmarais, Guilford, Maine; two sisters, Bettijo Moote and Bonnie Jean Stone both of Claremont; his former wife, Judy Clayton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Buster G.E. Desmarais and David Desmarais.
A Mass of Christain Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday in St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. Steven Lepine, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Claremont Soup Kitchen Inc., PO Box 957, Claremont, NH 03743.
