Lois Jean Goodrich

Chelsea, Vt. — Lois Jean Goodrich, 86, of Chelsea and formerly of Amesbury, Mass. died on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, Vt.

Lois was born on July 16, 1927, she was the daughter of Franklin H. and Iva M. (Johnson) Sargent. She lived in Amesbury most of her life. She graduated from Amesbury High School in 1945. After high school she worked at the Sears and Roebuck Order Office and the Briggs Insurance Agency both in Amesbury. She married George E. Goodrich on Nov, 27, 1946. While George was attending the Wentworth Institute in Cambridge, Mass. under the GI Bill, their son was born in 1947 and the family moved to Schenectady, N.Y. for employment. After four years the family moved back to Amesbury.

Lois enjoyed raising her family of three boys, George D., Gene E., Gregg S. and one girl, Gay Lynn. Lois sewed quite extensively, making clothes for her family and relatives. Her other hobbies included braiding rugs, hiking and camping in New Hampshire and Vermont. George and Lois also enjoyed attending the many sporting events of their grandchildren. They retired to Vermont in 1986.

She is survived by her husband, George E. Goodrich of 66 years; three sons, George D. Goodrich and his wife, Ruth Ann of Schenectady, N.Y., Gene E. Goodrich and his wife, Michele of Amesbury, Mass., Gregg S. Goodrich and his wife, Dianne of Gorham, Maine; and a daughter, Gay Lynn and her husband, Mark Cartier of W. Ossipee, N.H.; ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Fogg of Hampstead, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Persis McLaughlin.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center, Vt. with Rev. Sam Newton officiating. The burial will be held immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Chelsea, P.O. Box 98, Chelsea, VT 05038.
