Letter: Making Canaan Summers Special

To the Editor:

I would like to recognize the efforts and community spirit of the Canaan Lions Club in its organization and sponsorship of the recently concluded “Concerts on the Common” in Canaan. For seven weeks, residents and visitors have enjoyed a myriad of music alfresco on the common in Canaan. From bluegrass to swing to drum panhandlers, the talented musicians held forth under open skies, notwithstanding one concert moved indoors due to inclement weather.

I believe this is the 13th year of the series, and I applaud the Lions Club efforts in continuing to host the concerts, which entails much advance coordination and funds. To that end, I extend congratulations to the following businesses and organizations that graciously contributed: Canaan Hardware, Barney Insurance, Granite Northland and Friends of Canaan Village.

The Friends of Canaan Village deserve thanks also for the added treat of ice cream sundaes. Is there any fresh blueberry sauce left? The Lions concert series adds a wonderful dimension to summers in Canaan. Thank you! And, as a note to Dale Barney, the Lions Club announcer and musician: We did turn out the lights the last Tuesday and look forward to seeing you in 2014 on the common.
