Canaan Approves New Ambulance Service Building
Canaan — The Planning Board unanimously passed a proposal last week to move forward and construct a 2,200 square-foot building to house the town’s ambulance service.
Town Administrator Mike Samson said the proposed $445,000 building will be constructed between the existing police and fire stations, joining the three branches.
M.T.D’s Property Maintenance and Contractors, of Canaan, was selected to construct the building and will start the project in two weeks, Samson said. The building will accommodate a third ambulance to provide private, non emergency transportation services in town and will take five to six months to complete.
Samson said bringing a third vehicle into the mix will allow the FAST Squad ambulance service to increase revenues. The building will help assist the department in “around the clock” care and its location will keep fire, police and ambulance personal in close proximity.
The ambulance service currently operates out of the police station.
