Canaan — Old North Church of Canaan will hold its annual service on Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. The event is timed to coincide with the end of summer sessions at nearby Caradigan Mountain School.

“We schedule this one service the last Sunday the kids are at the school, with the idea that they come down to the service, too,” said Charles “Skip” Baldwin, treasurer of the nonprofit Old North Church, which runs the church.

Refreshments will be served after the service.

Built in 1828, the Congregational Church on Canaan Street is unheated and has no electricity. In addition to the annual service, it opens now and again for other events, such as weddings or funerals, Baldwin said.

A memorial service for James “Jim” Miller, the board’s longtime chairman who died in May, is scheduled for Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the church.
