Little Deer Isle, Maine — Susan Gagner Brady passed away at home on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, due to a long illness.
She was born in Portland, Maine. She graduated from Portland High School in 1958 and Westbrook College in 1960, with an associate degree in medical technology. She moved to the Upper Valley, N.H., and began her 35+ years as a laboratory technician at DHMC in Lebanon, N.H., retiring in 2002.
While in the Upper Valley, she was a very active member of the Parish of St. Helena and St. Mary — it was her life. As was her love of the ocean, where she ended up retiring in 2002, moving to Little Deer Isle. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross and her community.
She was predeceased by her son, Andrew Gagner in 2010. She is survived by her loving husband, Philip Brady, Jr.; her sister, Deborah Laird of Windham; her brother, William Hefler, New Port Richey, Fla.; her children, Ann Gagner of Canaan, N.H., and Catherine Gagner of Standish, Maine; her step-children, Melanie Brady, Phelan Brady, and Kathleen Brady and former husband, Gordon Gagner of Canaan. Susan also leaves behind grandchildren who will miss her visits.
Susan’s family would like to thank Hancock Country Hospice for their tireless and loving care during her final days.
A service will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Church in Canaan and she will be buried in South Portland, Maine in June.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Catholic Charities of Maine.
