Wilbur Wilson Putnam

Bridgewater Corners,Vt. — Wilbur Wilson Putnam, Sr., 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Centerin Lebanon, N.H.

He was born on May 18, 1937, in Bridgewater Corners the son of Edwin R. and Beulah (Wilson) Putnam.

Wilbur lived on the family property most of his life and went to work at Putnam Construction with his father and brother at a young age building countless roads in central Vermont, including the road through the Corners.

He loved hunting, fishing, driving the back roads, and making good use of his lawn tractor and four-wheeler.

The last few years he looked forward to spending the winter months in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Fishing for Redfish and Sheepshead on the docks at Inlet Marina with all of his fishing buddies.

He was 25 year member of the Bridgewater and Vermont State Grange.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Audrey Scribner Putnam; his five daughters, Kathy “put” of Woodstock, Jane and her husband, Ed Browe of Florence, Joan Modersohn and Eric Weller of Bridgewater Corners, Jill and Dick Blaney of Plymouth, and Joyce and Rob Arnebold of Killington; six grandchildren, Ryan, Dylan, Chancey, Shawn, Heath, and Jeremiah; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Maxwell and his wife, Betty of Plymouth; and a sister, Pauline Adams of St. Cloud, Fla.

He is predeceased by his infant daughter Janice, grandson Travis, son Wilbur “Wink” Putnam, and two sisters, Madeleine O’Neil and Shirley Sailer.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Bridgewater Congregational Church. A reception will follow at the Bridgewater Grange in Bridgewater Corners.
