Bradford’s Copeland Furniture Still Open After Small Fire

Bradford, Vt. — A small fire in the main sawdust collection silo at Copeland Furniture caused some minor damage Wednesday evening, but the furniture plant and store was open for business yesterday, company officials said.

“This was an external facility and did not affect the factory interior in any way,” the Bradford-based company said in an email yesterday. “More importantly, no one was hurt.”

Fire crews responded to the plant around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Tim Copeland, one of the executives in the family-owned company, said the fire “wiped out our exterior dust collection system” but that a series of portable machines had been brought in as a temporary solution.

The company email said there could be some “minor delays” but that the fire “will not be a significant disruption to our business.

“All offices, assembly, finish and shipping were entirely unaffected and are operating this morning as normal,” the email said. “In all, we expect to be back to normal by the end of next week.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
