Bradford, Vt. — A journalist turned farmer’s wife, Frances “Fran” Hyde was known to some as “the lady in the blue truck” for the many trips she made hauling silage and other feed between the family properties on the Upper Plain and Lower Plain. Hyde drove a tractor, fed calves and helped in the fields, but she never completely traded pencil for pickup truck, continuing to write articles for the Journal Opinion long after she married dairy farmer and widower Arthur Hyde.
