Bethel, Vt. — James Arthur Abbott died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph with his loving family present. Jim was born Feb. 11, 1926, the son of Myrtle (Burridge) Abbott and Ruel Abbott of Bethel. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Bethel, along with sister Ruth and brothers Arthur and Richard. Family stories abound about life on the farm; Jim especially loved telling tales about driving the milk route on frigid Vermont mornings before heading to high school. After graduating from Whitcomb High School in 1944, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Mississippi as World War II wound down. Out of the service, …
