Green Mountain Club Offers Tips For Hikes During Hunting Season
Waterbury, Vt. (ap) — Vermont’s Green Mountain Club is encouraging hikers to be respectful of hunters during the state’s main deer hunting season.
The 16-day rifle hunting season runs from Nov. 16 through Dec. 1 and hunting is allowed on all land owned and managed by the Green Mountain Club.
Vermont’s two-day youth hunting season began Saturday and continues today.
The club oversees the Long Trail, which runs from Massachusetts to the Canadian border, and a number of other hiking trails in the state.
Club Executive Director Will Wiquist said hunting, like hiking, is a valuable part of Vermont outdoor recreation.
He encouraged hikers out during deer season to wear blaze orange to be seen by hunters and to avoid hiking at dawn and dusk when there is limited visibility.
