‘Burlington Free Press’ Sells Seven Downtown Buildings

Burlington (ap) — The Burlington Free Press has sold seven of its 12 buildings in downtown Burlington and plans to move those offices to another location in Vermont’s largest city.

The newspaper sold the historic property at 185-195 College St. to the Handy family and plans to move its newsroom, advertising and finance employees somewhere else downtown.

The Burlington Free Press reported that the property has been home to the newspaper since the 19th century.

The Handy family, operating as The Great Cedars LLC, plans to redevelop the property into ground-floor shops or restaurants and housing and office space in the upper floors.

The buildings have been on the market since last October.

Gannett Vermont Publishing owns five other buildings on South Winooski Avenue that include the packaging center and pressroom.
