Kuster Says ‘No Excuse’  For Late Tax Payments

Manchester — U.S. Rep. Ann McLane Kuster says she has no excuse for paying her property taxes late over the course of several years.

Kuster, a Democrat elected in the 2nd Congressional District in November, has made late payments with interest for the last three years for both her home in Hopkinton and a rental property in Jackson. She paid the most recent bills, amounting to about $11,000, last week after WMUR-TV reported that she was late.

On Monday, she told the television station that there was no “grand explanation” for her tardiness.

In one incident, a tax bill due Dec. 1, 2011, was paid in January 2012. The time frame for other payments was longer — taxes due this past July were paid in January.

“We’ve got two kids growing up. Life is expensive, and it caught up to us,” she said. “I apologize.”
