Letter: My Best Coach Ever

To the Editor:

Kim Sheffield, an elite distance runner, former Lebanon cross-country coach and volunteer coach of the Upper Valley Running Club, has been a superb leader and inspiration. I understand that she has resigned from her coaching position at Lebanon High, and I am saddened that the young runners will not benefit from her guidance.

As a 67-year-old runner with the running club, I am writing to thank her for being my best coach ever. Many of the top runners and slow runners in the recent ChAD half-marathon benefited from her free weekly “TNT” — Tuesday Night Track — training and Saturday-Sunday long distance runs. She has been a generous community volunteer. In her role as Lebanon High coach, I watched her encourage, coach and support her athletes at a massive 2,200-runner cross-country meet in Thetford a few weeks ago. Personally, and on behalf of many distance runners, I thank her for her professional, friendly and inspiring coaching, wish her well, and welcome her back for the long distance.
