Hartford Hosting Forums on Mental Health

Hartford — WeCare Hartford and the Multi-Agency Community Council — formed to support area youth and families — will hold its second of five forums aimed at promoting emotional health and well-being.

The event will take place on Monday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. and will surround adolescent and family mental health, according to a news release. Area health professionals will give presentations at the event and an open discussion will be invited.

September presenters include three health professionals from Health Care & Rehabilitation Services, a Vermont-based health program aimed at addressing “health issues, medical disabilities, (and) rehabilitation needs.”

They include: Cynthia Dale, a clinical psychologist; Robyn Carpenter, a clinical mental health counselor; and Jennifer Chambers, the Windsor County Crisis Team leader with the crisis department at HCRS.

Three other events will be held this year — on Oct. 21, Nov. 18, and Dec. 16. All of the events will be held at the Hartford High School auditorium.

Middle and high school students, as well as parents and community members are invited to attend. A similar event held in early July yielded nearly 80 people. The conversations were sparked after two local Hartford teenagers died by suicide in June, as previously reported. The July forum addressed suicide, the warning signs, resources and how parents can help children through the grieving process, while discussions later this month will touch on bullying, relationships and resiliency, and substance use and abuse.
