Letter: We Need All the Protections Available
To the Editor:
After reading the article about the New London Police Department’s request to purchase new cameras to protect officers from false accusations of misbehavior — one that came after their former police chief was accused of offering to drop charges against a woman if she agreed to pose nude for photographs — I would go on to stress that all emergency responders and tow truck operators should do the same. Abby Tassel, assistant director of WISE, makes a valid point when she says that the request re-enforces the notion that women are making up these accusation. But Tassel and her colleagues at WISE are easily manipulated. They are a wonderful group of volunteers, but I do not believe they can tell the difference between drama queens and actual victims, and I know for a fact that the courts cannot tell the difference. In the world we live in today, we need all the protections we can put in place; there can never be enough. That is especially true in cases where corrupt police officers perform sham investigations.
