Prosecutor in Teacher Slaying Opposes Trial Move Request

St. Johnsbury, Vt. — Prosecutors are fighting a request to move the trial outside of Caledonia County of a man charged with his wife in the killing of a popular St. Johnbury teacher.

Allen Prue, of Waterford, Vt., is charged with first-degree murder in the abduction and killing of Melissa Jenkins last year. His wife, Patricia Prue, is charged with aggravated murder. Last month, Allen Prue’s lawyer asked that his trial be moved because of pretrial publicity.

The Caledonian Record reported that the state’s attorney is opposing the request saying the change-of-venue motion is premature and lacks merit and the defendant has not shown why he thinks a prejudice exists.
