Bradford Man Dies While Trimming Tree Limbs
Bradford — A 74-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon while trimming limbs off a fallen tree, Vermont State Police said.
Arthur Kaiser was trimming a limb off a large tree that had already been cut down around 4 p.m. at his home on Werner Road, police said. While cutting the limb, which was under pressure, the remaining part of the tree sprung up from its position, hitting Kasier in the head, police said.
Even though he was wearing a helmet and face shield, Kaiser died shortly after from blunt force trauma to the head, police said.
Kaiser spent much of his life in New Jersey, where he worked as a plumbing and heating contractor, before retiring to his ten-acre spread in Vermont ten years ago, his daughter Kristen Kaiser said in a brief interview yesterday.
The family vacationed in Vermont every summer, she said, and Kaiser had long loved the area.
“It was his dream to move up here,” Kristen Kaiser, of Somersworth, N.H., said on the phone interview from her father’s home. “We spent half our lives here as children.”
Much of the Kaiser family fell in love with Northern New England — Kristen Kaiser eventually moved to New Hampshire, and another sister is in Maine.
A father of three daughters and one son, Kaiser loved the outdoors, Kristen Kaiser said.
He was also a planner: Kaiser had cut plenty of wood to heat his home through the winter, but was already looking to prepare for next year when he ventured outside to cut some limbs on Tuesday.
“He was trying to get out while the weather was still good,” Kristen Kaiser said. ‘He was always very careful.”
