Two Offenders Captured in Norwich
Norwich — Two offenders briefly escaped a work crew yesterday morning and burglarized a home before they were captured in downtown Hanover, authorities said.
Christopher LaFlam, 26, of Vergennes, and Matthew Hinton, 22, of Rutland, walked away from the supervised work crew at Hillside Cemetery in Norwich, Police Chief Doug Robinson said.
After a brief manhunt, they were arrested without incident in downtown Hanover, Robinson said. Before they were captured, the men entered an unoccupied home on Bragg Hill Road and stole a credit card, Robinson said.
Police said the offenders may have broken into multiple homes in the Bragg Hill and Beaver Meadow area and stolen jewelry, which they may have sold. Norwich Police are currently investigating and are asking residents to check to make sure they are not missing jewelry. If so, residents are asked to contact police at 802-649-1460.
Both men were considered low-level offenders, Robinson said.
A total of seven offenders housed at the Southeast Facility/Work Camp in Windsor were assigned to the work crew, officials said.
